以前は、日本を含む東アジア一帯の地域の事を「極東」と称するのが浸透していて、実際、それを社名に入れていた会社も多くあった。

ただ、最近では目にする事が少なくなっているし、それは歓迎すべき事の一つだと思う。 何故なら、それは 15世紀以降、西欧を中心と考えた世界観に基づいた分類用語だからだ。

日本から世界へメッセージを発信する際、極東という言葉を使わない事が自らの尊厳を保ち、多様性や共生などの世界的潮流にも沿っている行為だ。



さて、ここで迷ってしまうのが、「中東」という分類用語だ。
20世紀初めまで覇権を振るっていたオスマン帝国の中心地（現在のトルコ）より東側で、17世紀以降、オランダとイギリスによって統治・蹂躙されたインドより西の地域を示す言葉だ。

同じ様に、「途上国」とか「発展途上国」という言葉の使用も憚られる。
何故なら、それも西欧社会が人間社会や文化の頂点として考えた「社会進化論」的な分類用語であり、侮蔑を生む用語になっていると考えるからだ。


純粋に、国名を使って発信すべきだろうね。



Japan was called the "Far East" country and japan itself called the "Far East", but now I think there are fewer opportunities to see it. 　I think it's a good thing not to call my country a "country in the Far East." 　Because "Far East" is a classification term based on the world view centered on Western Europe.

I don't want to use the term "Middle East" or "developing country" for the same reason. Especially, the term “developing countries” is a “social evolution theory” classification term that considers Western society as the apex, and is also a term that creates contempt.
