駅に向かって歩いていると、駅手前にある、信号機の無い横断歩道で、
年齢 80歳前後、高齢のご夫婦らしき二人が立ち留まり続けていた。
見れば、女性の方が歩行器を使っての歩行なので、
なかなか渡るタイミングが取れずにいる様子だった。
そこで、先に横断歩道の半ばまで歩き、走る車を止め、
二人に横断を促した。
しかし、歩行器があるとはいえ、その歩みは遅い。
時速 1㎞以下では 全長 20ｍ程の横断歩道は長過ぎる。
それを見て、止まっていた車が直前をすり抜けようとしたので、
年齢50歳位の女性が運転するベンツを、両腕広げて制止した。
道路交通法で「徐行」または「停止」の義務になっている以上に、
他者の人生に与えるリスクのある行為はモラル違反・インモラル行為だ。
とかく運転者は、「法律だから止まる」以上の意識は薄いようだ。
中には 「止まってあげた」という慈善的意識の人もいるようだ。
横断歩道は、歩行や聴覚・視覚等に機能障害を抱えた人も通る道。
そんな人達にとって、横断歩道は事故に遭遇するリスクの高い道。
一方、運転者にはそれに相当する程のリスクは無い場所だ。
他者の人生へのリスクを考えられない者には、運転する資格はない。

Many people who drive motorcycles and cars find pedestrian crossings a nuisance. Especially in Japan, if there is a person trying to cross a pedestrian crossing without a traffic light, the law requires that they stop. However, in many cases, most people pass by without pausing, and even if there are pedestrians who are crossing, they pass by without touching them.
There is a big difference in the risk of damage incurred in contact accidents between pedestrians and vehicles, and for the elderly and those with limited means of voluntary movement with physical disabilities, pedestrian crossings are an option-free travel route and the area at the most risk of damage. To be fair about the magnitude of risks people face, I believe that pedestrians are given strict priority on crosswalks, and that is the moral principle that people should take.
