Increasing the "Grip Force" of tires is essential for safe and enjoyable riding, but it is by no means necessary to replace tires with high performance tires. The most important thing for any tire is to maintain proper air pressure and to understand and practice the laws of improved grip force.

概要 Summary

The larger "Grip Force", the more contorol and safety

Consider the Vehicle Balance

If you can increase the "grip force", you will be able to ride
more safely and exactly as you want.
ABS and traction control cannot increase "grip force".

< What this section says >
The “grip force” of the tires must always be kept greater than sufficient for safe and enjoyable motorcycle riding. Many of the latest vehicles are equipped with ABS and traction control, but they are safety devices when the grip of the tires is insufficient, not a device to increase the grip. "Grip force" changes greatly depending on the rider's riding operation, so it is most important to understand it.

Effect of changing Tire Size on Vehicle Balance

Consider the Vehicle Balance

The magnitude of the "grip force" is determined
by the physical laws of friction force
Grip force varies greatly with the "load" on the tire's contact surface.

< What this section says >
Since the "grip force" of a tire is a frictional force, according to the laws of physics, it is determined by the product of the "friction coefficient" between the tire and the road surface and the "load" on the tire. In other words, the driving operation that always keeps the "load" high keeps the "grip power" high.

Do you know the Shell Life of your Tires

Consider the Vehicle Balance

In steady driving, the total "load" on the front and rear wheels
is the sum of the vehicle weight and body weight.
You can increase the sum of the front and rear wheel "loads"
by accelerating and decelerating

< What this section says >
The sum of the "load" on the contact surface of the front and rear wheels is the sum of the weight of the vehicle and the rider during steady driving, but it is possible to greatly increase it by being aware of acceleration and deceleration.

Front Brake is important when turning

Consider the Vehicle Balance

Alternating acceleration and deceleration is effective in increasing "grip force"
Grip force is not so great when turning at a constant speed.

< What this section says >
In order to increase grip force, expand the control range, and ride safely and enjoyably, it is important to increase the load through acceleration and deceleration and use it efficiently. In other words, it is important to practice a clothoid line according to the "Law of Coins" instead of riding
in a steady circle. And the analysis at this seminar has progressed to the point that it is proof that the grip power is wasted in the way the front fork moves up and down while turning. However, it may take time to understand and practice.

Additional Explanation

< What this section says >
It is important to understand the conditions under which the amount of "grip force" varies, to feel the grip force at all times, and to operate the motorcycle to increase grip force, rather than just imitating an apparent riding style or following a pre-taught driving maneuver or riding line. It is also important to avoid wasting or losing grip force by steering too hard or forcing the motorcycle into a deep lean.

For example, when turning from a straight road to a corner, in order to increase the grip force of the front tires, get into the habit of turning immediately after closing the accelerator, or apply the front brake lightly. If you start leaning with it on, the grip force of the front tire will be greater than if you didn't do it at all, and you can start turning with confidence. However, even if you make a mistake, you should avoid turning immediately after releasing the front brake. The reason for this is that it is the timing when the “load” on the front tire is released by braking. In other words, when the front fork sinks once and then begins to stretch, the “load” is beginning to be released, so the grip force is also beginning to be lost.
